Our week in Edinburgh

Our week in Edinburgh

On the 6th of May, we started in Merano our school trip to Edinburgh by coach. For three hours, we travelled to Venice Airport. At 11.30 am we flew with EasyJet to Edinburgh. From there a taxi brought us to our host family. The accommodation was ok, but the families were very friendly and hospitable. On this day, the weather was amazing because it was very warm and sunny. The next day we went to school and had lessons for three hours like every day. After school, we made a guided sightseeing tour with our classmates. We visited the beautiful city and many sites, for example: Edinburgh Castle, Scott’s Monument and Princes Street. Edinburgh is a historical city with a stunning architecture. With its little restaurants, shops and pubs it has a friendly atmosphere. On the street you can admire bagpipes-player and artefacts of the past. After the tour some of us went on Arthur’s Seat, others went to the seaside at Portobello Beach. Arthur’s Seat is the highest hill of Edinburgh. From there you have a stunning view over the whole city and the North Sea. The walk takes approx. 30 minutes and on the way to the top, we smelled the flavour of coconut because of the yellowish flowers, which grow on the hill. The third day we made a shopping tour on Princes Street. It is the main shopping street in Edinburgh and we found many attractive shops, especially high branded shops. Suddenly it started raining and so we went to Starbucks for a coffee. On Wednesday, the weather wasn’t better and so we stayed in the city centre again. On Thursday, we had lessons until the evening and afterwards we went with our classmates to Jamie Oliver’s Italian Restaurant. There we had a huge range of different Italian dishes and everyone chose something delicious. Some of our classmates went again to Arthur’s Seat to see the sunset. On our penultimate day, we made a daytrip to St. Andrews which is a charming town near the North Sea, 1 ½ hours away from Edinburgh. We went there by coach and after the arrival, we made a little tour through the city centre and the golf course. It is said that it’s the first golf course in the world and that playing golf was invented there. After lunch, we strolled on the beach. It was very windy but we had a lot of fun and took many photos. Our last evening in Edinburgh we spent together in a pub where we had a Guinness and listened to some live music. On Saturday, our taxis arrived very early at our host families and brought us to the airport. From there we flew to Munich and by coach we went back home.
